Next stop en route was Madaba, a city renowned for its beautiful byzantine mosaics. The most famous one is the so called 'Madaba map' on the floor of St. George church. It used to measure about 20 x 8 meters and is the oldest known map of the Middle East. Here is all thats left of it today:
